I got the idea to start this blog after posting outfits on Instagram and FaceBook and getting lots of feedback from friends, family and even complete strangers on how they liked my style. I didn’t think much of it at first but then when I didn’t post for a while I was getting texts and messages saying “Hey I miss seeing your outfit posts!” (Really??) I never really considered myself a style expert, I just know what I like, I love to shop, I love glamorous, girly things and I love to put together outfits. I especially like to find unique pieces to wear that will start a style conversation.
Style means different things to different people and everyone’s sense of style is their personal billboard. For some people a sense of style comes easily – they seem to be born with an innate talent of putting together outfits, styling them with the coolest accessories and they effortlessly walk out the door looking like a runway model. And for some it seems to evolve over time thru trial and error.
To be completely honest I’m not one of those people who had an immediate sense of style. I used to be more of a “copy cat styler” – meaning I needed to see an outfit put together on a mannequin or see an outfit on someone else to understand what my style was. I think that holds true for a lot of people as well. We see something someone else is wearing and want to know where they got it, what brand it is, etc. This so called “copy-cat styling” can also help create your own sense of style and what appeals to you. Especially in this social world of iconic style influencers it’s easy to find someone who’s style we love and start to develop our own personal style “brand”.
One of my style icon’s is Rachel Zoe. I love her glamorous sense of style and while a lot of her outfits are a bit more extravagant from what I might wear on a daily basis (I’m not jet setting around the fashion world like she is everyday) her style has always appealed to me. She’s petite – like me and she wears styles that make her look tall and glamorous, i.e. platform heels (I’ve always been a sucker for a platform heel because I’m short and because I think they’re sexy), boot cut jeans ( I prefer boot cut jeans over skinny jeans because I’m busty and short waisted and they help “balance” me from head to toe), tunic style tops, fitted jackets, lots of glam accessories and always a pair of glamorous sunnies. All things I love to wear! Have I mentioned I love all things Glam???
She’s always true to who she is and what she likes – not whatever the current trend is – and to me that’s what true style is. So I was excited when she started her Box of Style subscription that comes out 4 times a year! It includes 5 or 6 of her fashion and beauty picks from top brands for the season. This white cover up from her Summer Box of Style can be worn to the pool, as a dress, as a tunic or even tucked in as a top and is one of my favorite pieces. The black tote/bag is also included along with a pair of fabulous earrings by For Love and Lemons! I went for a total Rachel Zoe copy cat look and paired her Box of Style items with white boot cut jeans, black platform heels and a big pair of sunnies!! Her Fall box is available now and you can still get her past season boxes as well.
