Every season I get so excited to see what the new fashion trends will be! It’s always fun to watch the fashion shows and runway events and see all the fantastic ideas designers have dreamed up and created! While I LOVE seeing what each new season brings for what’s going to be popular let’s be real some of those runway designs can be a bit over the top for us everyday peeps to wear and sometimes I feel overwhelmed worrying about how am I going to stay trendy wearing something like a feather hat but, those extravagant styles usually translate into “normalized” designs that become the season’s trends and what you’ll see in ready to wear clothing.
Two of this Fall’s top trends are animal print anything and camouflage. And while you may not think that either one of those is appealing you will see their influence in just about every store this season. Now that doesn’t mean that you have to buy a camo or leopard print outfit and if those aren’t things you typically wear these “trends” might not be that interesting to you. Although I LOVE both these trends and would wear just about anything animal print or camouflage!!! But, sometimes the best thing to do is to look for pieces that translate those trends. In other words maybe a pair of camo pants isn’t your style or something you’d feel comfortable wearing but maybe a khaki green pair of pants is – and so the green color from the camo trend is just as in style as the camo itself and it “translates” towards that trend. Maybe just an animal print accessory is the extent of animal print you can wear but an on trend handbag or pair of shoes or even a belt is great addition to any outfit and keeps your look updated! This outfit isn’t camouflage but it does translate the colors of camouflage with black and khaki green which keeps it on trend but not in your face “trendy”. And the snakeskin print booties have the same tones and so now I’m able to wear both trends in one outfit without feeling like I’m walking the runway if I’m just going to the grocery store!
I feel like I’ve developed a kind of bragging right over the years to buy things that I end up being able to wear for years to come and a lot of those things were trends at some point but had a classic enough style to stay in fashion over the years – which also helps me justify my purchases! When I look in my closet my favorite pieces are one’s that I’ve had for 5 years or some times more and are still classic and in style. And to be honest when I bought these booties I wasn’t sure how much I would be able to wear them because of the animal print but I think I have worn them with just about everything in my closest so far. In fact I literally have to make myself wear other shoes in my closet because these are the first one’s I reach for. The print isn’t too bold and the colors are subtle so that makes them act almost as a neutral themselves. And that’s another great tip on how to wear these two trends – think of them as neutrals instead of a print and focus more on the subtle colors of them instead of worrying if you have to rush out and buy something that might not be your taste.
Just because it’s a trend doesn’t mean you have to wear it if it’s not your style so translate the trend into something that is your style or a small piece that you can add to any outfit. Both these trends can do just that!
